Civil Lines

The heritage administrative quarter, leafy and low-density, and the district's premium school address. Mid-to-premium fees, with some of North Delhi's oldest and best-known institutions on large campuses.

Kamla Nagar and Shakti Nagar

The dense student-and-trader belt next to Delhi University's North Campus, with older legacy schools at mid-range fees. The academic pull of the university shapes the area.

Model Town, GTB Nagar and Kingsway Camp

Established middle-class pockets along the Yellow Line, with a solid set of mid-range CBSE schools, several of them well-known convent and public schools.

Burari and Sant Nagar

The district's growth frontier, newer and denser, with affordable housing and the main pool of budget schools. The Pink Line now reaches Burari, which has opened the area up.

North Delhi is strongly CBSE, and almost all the notable schools are CBSE-affiliated.

ICSE is rare, with the clearest example in Kashmere Gate. IB and IGCSE are effectively absent, so families who want them look to South or West Delhi, or to Gurugram.

Fee landscape

North Delhi's fees are moderate, and its premium ceiling sits well below the international-school levels of South Delhi or Gurugram.

Fee figures vary by source and year, so treat these as ranges. Transport, books, uniform and activity charges usually add another 30 to 50 per cent over the quoted tuition.

Metro connectivity

The Yellow Line is the district's spine, running through the University and Civil Lines corridor.

• Yellow Line through GTB Nagar, Vishwavidyalaya (DU North Campus), Vidhan Sabha, Civil Lines and Kashmere Gate.
• Pink Line now reaches Burari, connecting the northern frontier towards Azadpur and the wider ring.
• Red and Violet Lines meet the Yellow Line at Kashmere Gate, a major triple interchange at the district's southern edge.

Azadpur is the Yellow and Pink Line interchange serving the Model Town and GTB Nagar side. Most of the established schools sit close to a Yellow Line station.

How admission works

Most private schools here follow the standard Delhi Directorate of Education points-based system for nursery admission, with neighbourhood distance carrying the most weight.

One thing to watch: several of North Delhi's flagship schools are Christian minority institutions, which under the rules have latitude in their admission criteria and may run their own process. If you are targeting those, check the school's own admission policy rather than assuming the standard points chart.

The cycle is otherwise the standard Delhi one: forms in November and December, applications in January, lists in February, session from April.
