About Modern School, Barakhamba Road
Modern School opened on Barakhamba Road in 1920 and remains one of Delhi's oldest surviving institutions, on a green campus near Mandi House in the heart of the city. The original campus runs Classes 6 to 12 under CBSE, with the pre-primary and primary feeder housed separately. Teaching leans on a broad co-curricular base — debating, theatre, music and a strong sports culture built around an Olympic-size swimming pool. The campus carries science and computer laboratories, a large library, an auditorium and a gymnasium.
The school added residential boarding recently: the Golden Jubilee Hostel houses boys, while the Centenary Block girls' hostel opened in January 2024, both air-conditioned with a shared mess. Day scholars make up the bulk of the roll, with boarding intake currently centred on senior classes. Transport runs across central and south Delhi. Senior students take the Science and Commerce streams.
